My friend Kelly, of Bump-its fame, got engaged this week (congrats!), and she asked me to do her makeup for her nuptials next year. This past spring, Steph, a long-time BFF, got hitched. Steph had asked me to do her makeup beforehand, and as the wedding party was primping, one by one, the ‘maids asked me to do their makeup, too. Steph’s mom even trusted her face to me. Obviously these ladies have good taste (ha!), but it got me thinking: would you trust your face to a friend on your big day?
In these tough economic times, a lot of brides-to-be are sticking firmly to a budget, and looking to cut costs. Not calling in a professional makeup artist can save hundreds. What about your best friend who always looks great? You know, the girl who somehow never ever has a zit showing because she’s so talented with concealer? Or the friend whose eye makeup always manages to look exactly like the celebrities’? Even though we all know a woman whose makeup always looks flawless, a professional is usually called in to cover wedding-day duties. Professionals know the ins and outs of sculpting the face, applying makeup to translate beautifully on camera, and forcing it stay put for hours (which is really important for weddings, since it’s typically such a long day).
Obviously, I am beyond flattered my friends have enough faith in me to trust their wedding makeup to me. Would you let a friend work her magic on your face, or would you call in the big guns for the big day?
My friend is amazing with makeup, and I would absolutely trust her. I think all brides are aware of a budget these days, and I think it’s a great idea to have a willing friend help out, especially if it saves some money.
I wouldn’t, not for my wedding day. I need a pro to make me gorgeous for just that one day.
Jillian, thanks for your input! I’m always curious to see where people are willing to cut costs when planning a wedding.
I did my best friend’s makeup for her wedding. and her mom’s, and her sister’s. The downside was when they went downstairs in the hotel to take family photos, i was left scrambling to do my own and get dressed, and my pantyhose ripped and i didnt have a spare and I was freaking out alone!! But my friend came back in time, gave me her extra (white) ones and nobody cared or noticed. Everyone looked amazing that day! I also did my own makeup 2 years later and my niece’s after that. I guess I did a good job. Nobody complained….
Rose, I was in the same position, too. After everyone was all make up, the photographer arrived and I still didn’t have my own makeup or hair done. That’s the only downside, I think – you plan to start early, but always seem to run out of time for yourself.
First & foremost, im not using my favorite blog writer Sugar Social to cut costs. I’m using her bc 1. i love her! 2. i honestly trust her & 3. her own makeup looks absolutely fabulous and i know she can create the look i want.
Mistakenly I trusted a friend to do makeup for another wedding and lets just say i looked like i belonged on the corner of somewhere not so pleasant with freakshow basically eyelined across my forhead. I vowed to never trust another friend to touch my face but I have faith in Sugar Social
Why thank you, Miss K.
