My original post on how to recreate J.Lo’s “American Idol” look has been the most-read post on this blog every single day for more than a year. That post alone has received more views than any other posts on the site, including those about any Kardashians or celebs, and even the Royal Wedding. You clearly loved how J.Lo looked on the show last year! And since she’s always changing it up, I wanted to do a 2012 version showing you how to get her look on this season of the show.
Part of why J.Lo always looks so great is cause she sticks to a formula when it comes to beauty. She knows what works for her, and she basically wears her makeup in the same way, usually switching up one element (say, an intense eye or a different lipcolor). These photos were snapped as J.Lo left an NYC hotel on Feb. 1. Even though her eyes are masked by oversized sunnies, what you can see looks stunning: flawless, dewy skin, and perfectly pale pink lip. This look is signature J.Lo…and you can recreate it yourself.
Let’s dig in!
Skin: J.Lo’s skin is always flawless and dewy. To cop this look, mix a luminizing cream with a tinted moisturizer. Since J.Lo’s all about the bronzy glow, try Benefit SunBeam ($26) mixed into your choice of tinted moisturizer.
Eyes: Though J.Lo’s eyes are shielded by oversize sunnies here, we can still see the basics of her eye look, which is soft and sensual. First, using a flat shadow brush, sweep a nude or ivory shimmery shadow on the inner corner of your eyelid, extending it outward ato about halfway across the lid. Followed it with a shimmery brown shadow in the crease. Urban Decay’s Naked2 palette ($50) contains these shades (and many more), so you can customize your look based on your own skin tone and hair color. Plus, it comes with a flat shadow brush that’s of really nice quality.
Next, line lids with a cocoa liner, like MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy ($16), getting as close to your lashline as possible. Then take the liner and gently trace along your waterline (the ridge of your lower lid, above your lower lashline).
Finish with a major dose of lashes. Curl your lashes (I am loving Shiseido’s Eyelash Curler, $19) and sweep on a few coats of volumizing black mascara like Rimmel London ScandalEyes ($7). Position the wand at the root of your lashes and wiggle it upward, concentrating on the ends. Placing extra mascara on the tips of your lashes will create the illusion that they’re longer. (But be sure to declump with a mascara comb if needed).
Cheeks: J.Lo is all about the glow, so it can’t hurt to dab more highligher on your cheekbones. (If you’re adapting this look for evening, also dab it on your browbones, just above your Cupid’s bow, and down the bridge of your nose.) Dab a peachy cream blush on the apples of your cheeks. One product that will take care of both of these steps: Smashbox Be Discovered In Lights Cream Blush Trio ($29), a trio of cream cheek colors (one that can be used as a highlighter) in one pan.
Lips: Nude, shiny lips are classic J.Lo. Finish off this look with a slick of nude gloss like Tarte Maracuja Divine Shine Gloss in Glisten ($21).
And there you have it–Jennifer Lopez’s signature look (rockin’ booty not included). Will you be trying this ultra-flattering look?
